The First Piece of P's Halloween Costume

Oh yea. This is happening. Another great Zulily find. Doesn't the middle guy look like Walter White? Halloween is kind of a HUGE deal in my family and I have to plan ahead if I want Parker's costume to be up to par for all the festivities.

This is what I had in mind for the complete costume. It's so cute + he'll be warm for trick or treating.

New to the Crib Gang - A Knitted Octopus

This past weekend was very eventful. We celebrated 3 birthdays and a bridal shower which means I ate A LOT of delicious cake (not good for the diet). I was able to personally deliver the whale blanket to baby E and succulent terrarium to Susan and Parker was finally able to pick up his octopus! Ahhh we are so excited about the newest addition to P's crib gang. I'm pretty crafty but I definitely cannot knit so, when I saw this tutorial on the Purl Bee site, I asked my cousin to work her magic. She's an amazing knitter and the octopus turned out so perfect. He doesn't have a name yet but I'm sure he will soon. Welcome to the crib gang, Mr. Octopus!

To view the original tutorial, visit the Purl Bee site. I was stuck on it for a while when I discovered it and I'm sure you will be too.

DIY Easy Extra Large Minky Play Blanket

I'm a little obsessed with making these large play blankets. They are the perfect size for P who is now rolling everywhere and starting to scoot around. I've made 4 of these and I think they are going to be my go-to baby shower gift from now on. Here's a quick tutorial on how to make your own minky blanket.

Supplies Needed
Sewing machine
1 1/2 yards of cotton fabric (I ordered mine from Fabric Worm)
1 1/2 yards of minky fabric
Quilter's pins
Thread that coordinates with your fabric choices
Rotary cutter, cutting mat, acrylic ruler (I purchased this set from Joanns)

Directions

Pre wash and dry your fabric. Iron cotton fabric. Minky does not need to be ironed.

Using your cutting mat, square off your fabric. Make sure to hold your ruler with a wide hand to ensure that it doesn't move around.

After, your cotton is squared off, lay fabrics right sides together. I like to spread it out on my floor.

Pin edge of fabrics together all the way around. Pin about 1/2 inch away from edge. Leave a 6 inch hole for turning the blanket right side out.

Trim off excess minky fabric so that both fabric pieces are the same size.

This is what your trimmed fabrics should look like.

Get your thread ready.

Using a 1/2 inch seam allowance, sew all around the edge of the blanket. Don't forget to leave that 6 inch hole open!

Flip your blanket right side out. Pin the opening so it's flush with the rest of the blanket.

Using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, top stitch around the entire blanket, making sure to close up the opening. I repeated this process 3 times to get the look I desired.

Ta da! Your banket is now complete. Time to wrap it up and give it to someone you love.

This blanket was given to baby Elijah who is just learning to roll around. We hope you enjoy the blanket baby E!

Please leave any questions or comments for me below. I'd love to see any photos of blankets you have made using this tutorial.

Don't throw away your extra minky! Another tutorial will be coming soon and you'll need your minky scraps.

Update: Baby E likes it!

Baby Boy - Joe Fresh JCP Collection

Here are my picks from the new Joe Fresh Kids collection at JC Penny. Love the robot sweater and the bomber jacket. There is nothing mind blowing in the collection but some of the pieces are cute for Fall. I will have to check out the quality of the materials next time I go to Fashion Valley Mall.

We Love Skip Hop

Our affair with Skip Hop continues! Tuan found this Skip Hop Activity Toy on clearance at Target and decided to purchase it for Parks. The contrasting stripes, little mirror and teethers make this a great toy. It's also very soft and a good cushion for P when he falls over. His sitting skills are not solid yet.

DIY Succulent Terrarium

Today's project has been made with love for my good friend Susan also known as Parker's biggest fan! Susan commissioned me to make her a succulent terrarium for his office. She's a fancy shmancy lawyer so I wanted to keep it polished with a little bit of glam to reflect her personality. I bought all of my supplies are Wholesale Flowers for under $25. The succulents all came from my garden which has been fully stocked with succulents since my friend Amanda got me hooked while we working on my wedding. Making terrariums is so easy to do so please try to DIY before you splurge on etsy!

Things you will need
Succulents
Large decorative rocks
Smalls decorative rocks (I used gold)
Potting soil (I use miracle grow)
Decorative moss
Glass bowl

Note: You can pretty much use any container but make sure to seal anything that may leak water

Directions
Lay large rocks at the bottom of the container. This is important to encourage good drainage.
Lay potting soil on top of rocks.
Arrange succulents however you like. I like to use succulents with varying heights to make it interesting.
Use small rocks to cover up soil to give your terrarium a more polished look
Place moss as desired.
Enjoy your terrarium! Succulents require very little water. Make sure to water once every other week and give your terrarium access to sunlight.
